SOUTH BAYFRONT PEDESTRIAN / BICYCLE BRIDGE
Location:  Emeryville, California, USA.  Client:  City of Emeryville.  Project Team:  Biggs Cardosa Associates (Prime), HNTB  Corporation, Callandar Associates. Conceptual Design, Urban Design, Bridge Architecture:  Rick Phillips, AICP, RA.  Principal Structural Engineer: Mahvash Harms, PE.  Architectural Team:  Ethan Chang, AIA; Patrick Sheehan.  Landscape Architecture: Peter Callandar, RLA.  Status:  Completed, 2021.
Description:  Signature pedestrian and bicyclist bridge spanning mainline rail corridor, linking major employment and retail/commercial centers.  Unique combination of S-curved deck and asymmetrical single tied-arch creates striking image while resolving complex site conditions. Conceptual design was developed through intense stakeholder involvement.  To avoid railroad impacts, main span will be constructed off-site and placed by crane. Project includes new public park (designed by Callandar Associates) and extensive urban design and interpretive features.
