Description: Visioning study of city-funded public spaces supporting new Caltrain station (also designed by Rick Phillips), including signature downtown entry plaza, sky-lit pedestrian/bicycle tunnel under freeway and rail corridor, intermodal transit center, and provisions for public art and future transit-oriented development. Public passage under rail corridor is key City strategy to reunite historic downtown with urban district cut-off by freeway construction in the 1950’s. Feature of visioning process was "working" scale model of evolving design, used in staff workshops and presentations before City Council and other agencies.
